Manjistha powder is an Ayurvedic remedy made from the dried roots of the Rubia cordifolia plant, also known as Indian madder. It is highly valued for its blood-purifying properties, which are thought to contribute to its widespread use for skin, digestive, and detoxifying purposes.
Benefits
Skin health: Manjistha is primarily known for its skin-enhancing effects. It contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe skin irritation, reduce acne, and calm conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It is also used to address pigmentation issues by inhibiting melanin production, helping to fade dark spots and brighten skin tone.
Blood purification: As a powerful blood cleanser (rakta shodhak), manjistha is believed to help remove natural toxins from the bloodstream. This promotes overall health and is said to lead to clearer skin.
Lymphatic support: The powder helps support the lymphatic system, which is responsible for transporting fluids and removing waste from the body. This supports healthy circulation and detoxification.
Digestive health: Manjistha's deepan (appetizer) and pachan (digestive) properties can aid digestion and manage issues like diarrhea. However, excessive consumption may lead to constipation.
Anti-aging: Its antioxidant content helps protect the skin from free radical damage, which can slow the signs of aging by promoting collagen production.
How to use manjistha powder
For external use (skin)
Face pack: Create a paste by mixing manjistha powder with a suitable liquid like rose water, honey, raw milk, or yogurt. Apply it to your face and neck, leave on for 15–20 minutes, and then rinse with lukewarm water. This can be done 2–3 times per week.
Body mask: For larger areas of inflammation or rashes, apply a paste of manjistha powder mixed with coconut oil.
For internal use (ingestion)
With water or milk: Mix 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of manjistha powder with warm water or milk and consume once or twice daily.
As a tea: For a warm infusion, boil water and stir in 1/4 teaspoon of manjistha powder. You can add honey to offset the bitter taste.
Consult a practitioner: Always consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider for proper dosage before starting any internal regimen.
Medical conditions: Individuals with specific health
conditions should consult a healthcare provider before using manjistha powder.
